Gary D. Luker, MD, a professor of radiology, microbiology and biomedical engineering at Michigan Medicine, will be the first editor of Radiology: Imaging Cancer, the Radiological Society of North America (RSNA)’s forthcoming online journal about clinical and translational cancer imaging studies, the RSNA announced today.
“I am delighted that RSNA is founding a new journal dedicated to cancer imaging,” Luker, who also serves as the associate chair for clinical research in the department of radiology at Michigan Medicine and is an attending physician at C.S. Mott Children’s Hospital in Ann Arbor, said in a release. “I want this new journal to become a must-read, not only for imaging specialists but also for people outside the field who want to advance imaging science and research for drug development and precision medicine in cancer.”
According to the release, the new RSNA journal will be a bimonthly publication dedicated to fostering communication across radiological subspecialities and supporting collaboration between organizations. RSNA members will automatically receive a Radiology: Imaging Cancer subscription when the journal launches, and editorial submissions will be accepted starting in early 2019.
Luker, chosen to head the project, completed his medical degree and diagnostic radiology residency in the '90s at Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis before pursuing his postdoctoral training in pediatric imaging with a fellowship at Mallinckrodt Institute of Radiology in the same city. He’s co-authored more than 145 peer-reviewed articles in his career and has served in editorial and peer review positions for the Journal of Immunology, Journal of Nuclear Medicine, Pediatric Radiology and other publications.
Luker has long been a member of RSNA and has also taken part in the Society for Pediatric Radiology, American Association for Cancer Research, World Molecular Imaging Society, Society of Nuclear Medicine and American Society for Clinical Investigation.
