Etta Pisano, MD, has been named chief research officer of the American College of Radiology (ACR). She is the first woman to hold this position for the ACR.

Pisano previously served as the chief science officer of the ACR Center for Research and Innovation. In addition, she is the principal investigator of the Tomosynthesis Mammographic Imaging Screening Trial, a historic clinical research trial that includes nearly 165,000 women.

“Dr. Pisano is a giant in the clinical research community,” William T. Thorwarth, MD, CEO of the ACR, said in a prepared statement. “She will identify clinical and socioeconomic research opportunities that can advance the practice of radiology and improve patient care. We are proud to have her as chief research officer for the entire College which will allow us to tap her talents and experience across the ACR.”
