RSNA 2018: Mary Mahoney named chair of RSNA Board of Directors

Mary C. Mahoney, MD, was named chair of the RSNA Board of Directors at RSNA 2018 in Chicago. Mahoney will lead the board in presenting radiologic research, education and technologies “to meet the changing needs of RSNA members and to improve patient care.”

Mahoney currently serves as a professor of radiology at the University of Cincinnati (UC) College of Medicine and is the chief of imaging services at UC Health in Cincinnati.

"I am honored and excited to be named chair of the RSNA Board of Directors," Mahoney said in a prepared statement released by RSNA. "This is a critical time for our profession's future, and RSNA has already embarked upon leading key initiatives to ensure radiology's indispensable position in improving patient care. I look forward to overseeing the Society's strategic expansion as we continue to meet the needs of our members."

Mahoney has served on various RSNA committees, including the Research and Education (R&E) Foundation Public Relations Committee and the Public Information Advisors Network. She also contributed to RSNA as the scientific session presiding officer from 2003 to 2009 and has chaired various committees.

In addition, Mahoney has published more than 70 peer-reviewed articles and 15 book chapters and co-authored two books that detail breast imaging. She currently serves as a manuscript reviewer for Radiology and serves on the editorial boards of CureusRSNA News and Contemporary Diagnostic Radiology. She also serves on the editorial advisory board of Radiology Business Journal.

Mahoney has also held leadership positions or is a member of various organization including the Society of Breast Imaging, the American Roentgen Ray Society and the American College of Radiology.
