Phelps Memorial Health Center has completed the necessary remedies, including notifying any women who underwent breast imaging the last two years.

"We hope to not only alleviate the increasing burdens on radiologists worldwide but also reduce disparities in healthcare," one Google AI leader said. 

Researchers speculated on several reasons why the United States sees more breast imaging-related lawsuits than its neighbor to the north. 

The findings point to a "real need for better tools to identify which women may benefit from screening and which breast cancers are unlikely to be progressive." 

The technology was able to detect about 20% more cancers when compared to standard screening, without impacting false positives.

Breast radiologists are known to have higher rates of burnout in comparison to many of their peers, but the beginning of the pandemic brought this group something not often encountered within the specialty—downtime. 

"This system is bringing with it a greater humanization of AI and therefore a more realistic representation of what we do as radiologists,” one member of the specialty said. 

ICAD Inc. said the deal spans multiple years and will see the nation’s largest radiology group adopting its breast  technology across the enterprise.
